Where's The Party?
Do you ever notice how there seem to be more social events in the warmer spring and summer months? People are done hibernating and want to be out and about with friends and family. There are so many holidays to celebrate – we've already had Mother’s Day, Cinco de Mayo, the Kentucky Derby, college graduations and right around the corner is Memorial Day, Father’s Day, and high school graduations. Add on top some weddings and the 4th of July, and it's a warm, whirlwind entertaining season. You name the occasion, people want to get together, dine al fresco, sip some wine, and enjoy each other’s company (and the balmy weather).
If you're lucky enough to be invited to an event, be marvelously well-mannered and RSVP – let the host know if you plan to attend. If you do, then attend. Don’t be a no-show. That can really throw your host off. Don’t arrive early – if you have ever hosted an event and experienced the almost universal frantic last-minute chaos that comes with home-entertaining – you know how precious the last 15 minutes before the party’ start time are to a host. (What you've hosted events and are perfectly calm during those last 15 minutes ... what is your secret?) Don’t invade that time. It's best to arrive 5-10 minutes after the start time. Don’t be later than that or the host will worry you will be a no-show.
If a true emergency prevents you from attending, as soon as you are able, call the host to profusely apologize. A nice touch is to send flowers after the event to let them know how much you missed it. If money is a bit tight and flowers aren’t doable – no problem - a heartfelt handwritten note from you will do the trick.
Have a marvelous week - Catherine & Jessica
