Anti-Social Behavior on Social Media
This week brought us the latest example of someone doing something wrong on social media and paying a huge price for it. While more and more people feel comfortable putting their thoughts on display, they sometimes forget that people will pass judgment online too.
You may feel comfortable posting your thoughts on every subject matter but proceed with caution. Your privacy settings won't save you. Once something is posted, tweeted and the like, it can never "go away". Put the wrong thing out there and you could lose your job and tarnish your reputation - even if your social media usage had nothing to do with your job. Just ask Rosanne Barr.
Our advice is to review your employer’s social media policy so you know the rules you are required to follow if you want to keep your job.
Before you post or tweet something, ask yourself: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? If you answer “no” to any of those questions, rethink your need to put it out there in the first place. Just because you have an opinion on a subject doesn’t mean it is always necessary to share that opinion with the world.
Be marvelously well-mannered and let positivity be part of your brand.
Have a marvelous week - Catherine
