It's Easy to Have Marvelous Deportment.

I recently encountered a rude, sullen person at a local store. Ironically, she held a customer service position. I patiently waited for her to finish her task. Then I smiled and said, “Hello”. Her response? She just stared at me and did an impatient sigh. Few things make you look as unprofessional as a bad attitude. In five seconds she sent the clear signal that she was unfriendly, unprofessional, and unhelpful. They say it only takes five seconds to make a first impression. My impression of her is not a good one. Maybe I am reading too much into a bad morning for her. While I may end up giving her the benefit of the doubt others may not be so forgiving. Let’s all remember the little things we can do to have marvelous personal deportment – have a positive attitude coupled with a smile. When you have a positive attitude you feel better and you make others feel welcome. A smile is icing on the cake. The little things play a big role in how others view you.
